Monica Puig from Puerto Rico will prematurely end the 2018 season. This was announced by the Olympic champion of 2016 in the social networks.
A season of highs and lows, Monica Puig describes her tennis year, which is now prematurely ended. The 25-year-old announced that leaving the Linz opener is the end of their season. After the first set against Margarita Gasparyan Puig had to give up injured and thus continues their injury trend in 2018. Just before the US Open in New York, Puig could not continue in the Connecticut semi-final against Carla Suarez Navarro in the first set (4: 4).
"We will now put our heads together, continue our work and focus on progress," said Puig after her assignment in Linz. The renewed blistering comes just in a phase in which it went up for the 25-year-old again. After a difficult start to the season and further physical setbacks Puig reached the last quarter-finals in Wuhan, where she eliminated, inter alia, Caroline Wozniacki.
